Al-Mawrid Institute Canada is an educational and reformatory institution registered as a Charitable Organization under the Canada Not For Profit Act.
Al-Mawrid was originally founded in 1983 in Pakistan by Javed Ahmad Ghamidi. Its aim was to revitalize stagnant Islamic intellectual discourse and rebuild Islamic education and research for the contemporary world. This was done with the realization that ljtehad – or exertion of independent reasoning applied to the Quran and Sunnah- must be an ongoing scholarly process as human error can never be fully eliminated from this work. Al-Mawrid Institute Canada is a charitable organization established in 2018 in Mississauga, Ontario. It sought to fulfill this mandate for the Canadian Muslim community and seekers from other faith- communities.
Our primary scholarly contributions are derived from the research of multi-generational scholarship of the Islamic linguistic, historical, and legal traditions by scholars like Hamiddudin Farahi, Amin Ahsan Islahi, and Javed Ahmad Ghamidi. Their collective interpretive methodology is sometimes referred to as the “Farahi school.” In addition to disseminating this scholarship, we engage in dialogue and comparative study of Islam, the study of Islamic languages, and addressing contemporary Muslim issues.
Help our organization by donating today! All donations go directly to making a difference for our cause.
At the Al-Mawrid Institute Canada, we are continuously striving to offer quality educational classes, certificate courses, lectures and seminars, as well as weekend school for both children and adults.
